Real Housewives of Orange County

(Ke)Oh, the Problems

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

The Keoughs, famous for being all-star baseball players, playboy bunnies, and stars on The Real Housewives of Orange County, are living proof that money does not make your life easy. I haven’t been following the news on Matt Keough and Jeana Keough breaking up, but someone on Google News caught my eye today - Matt’s arraignment has been rescheduled. Arraignment? Arraignment for what? I really have been out of the loop lately. Bad blogger!

In 2005, Matt was arrested for DUI, which means that he’s on parole. However, he was caught drinking at a Newport Beach hotel not long ago, when a concerned staff member called the authorities. That’s a direct violation of his parole. Currently, Matt is not eligible for parole, probably because this is not the first time his violated court orders.

It’s a sad story.

For those of you who don’t know, Matt Keough was a star baseball player for the Oakland A’s, as was his father. His son, Shane Keough, is also playing ball, and everyone expects that his younger son, Colton, will as well. When Matt met Jeana, he was a fun, interesting, hot guy who was at the top of the world. She was a playboy playmate, also at the top of her game. It was a solid super-star hook up.

Then, Matt was hit in the head by a line drive while in the dugout at a game. He almost didn’t make it, and they had to do emergency brain surgery to save his life. Unfortunately, he was never the same Matt. He turned into a person that you generally don’t want to be around.

It wasn’t hard to see that Matt and Jeana were falling out of love on the show. The only thing keeping them together was their kids and their morals that “you marry for life.” Sadly, that wasn’t enough, and in this season Matt and Jeana are separated, although the report did say that she attended his court date.

This poor guy, due to an accident, has little left in his life. I’m not surprised that alcohol became a problem. Last year, Matt checked himself into the Betty Ford Clinic to attempt to sober up, but apparently he still needs more help.

My heart reaches out to you, Matt and Jeana. It’s been a hard situation, and I admire your strength.

The Real Housewives of Orange County: Episode 307 Recap

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

“F You, F You, F You, F You…”

We all saw the previews and were braced for a Vicki - Jeana smackdown…but it didn’t really happen that way…here’s your Episode 307 Recap:

First of all, let’s talk about how sleezy the OC Angels are. Well, not the girls themselves…but the concept. Maybe Lou Knickerbocker ran things differently, but those bathing suits were ridiculous. I get it - sex sells. But that doesn’t mean that you have to walk around in a thong and a top that barely covers your nipples let alone the rest of your chest. My favorite quote of the night was from one of the horny old men running the company - they did a close of of one of the girls’ butts, only half-way covered by the teeny little bottom, and he goes thought it should be “just a little bit smaller. Good for Ashley (Lauri Waring’s daughter) for not wearing something she wasn’t comfortable wearing.

In this episode, Quinn planned a birthday get-together for Billy with some of his friends. It was a bit awkward - I felt bad for the girl. She didn’t know, like, ANY of his friends, and then she did a weird announcement about how much she cares about Billy…and he didn’t really respond. He left her hanging, and you could tell that it made her feel even more uncomfortable. I really like Quinn, so I hope things work out for her and Billy.

The rest of the ladies went out together in this episode, and it looked like they had a lot of fun. The whole “meltdown” was about - you guessed it - Frankie staying in Vicki’s house, which Jeana set up. Here’s the problem: Frankie agreed to rent Vickie’s house while she did a little work and put it back on the market. She asked for a $4000 security deposit. He gave her $2000. That was problem number one. Problem number two is that he hasn’t been paying his rent every month. I agree with Vicki that a security deposit is necessary. I don’t care how “disaster zone” your house may be, there are always damages that can occur, and you have to be covered for that.

HOWEVER, to ask for full rent when the place is being renovated is unreasonable. Yes, Frankie agreed to like there while it was being redone…but it sounds like he was under the impression that they were going to be redecorating, not KNOCKING DOWN WALLS. People can’t live like that. I don’t think it was justified that HE reduced his rent - but Vicki and Don shoudl have already reduced it for him.

Furthermore, Frankie and Vicki both need to grow up and talk to one another. Right now, they are both just yelling at Jeana, which is not fair.

What do you think about the situation?

Quinn Fry: The New Real Housewife

Friday, December 14th, 2007

On this week’s episode of The Real Housewives of Orange County, we met Quinn Fry, a new housewife. New housewife? Was anyone else as surprised as I was? It seemed weird that Bravo would be bringing in a sixth housewife half-way through the season…

But no matter how weird it is, Quinn is here, invading our precious show, less than a season after we were introduced to Tamra Barney. Maybe invading is a strong word, though…because Quinn seems like she’ll be an awesome addition to the group!

I have to admit something - for over two years I was a professional stalker. Well, that’s what I call it anyway. I worked to a college as a research assistant - but not in a lab…in the development office. A research assistant in a development office looks for information about potential donors. I used the Internet, including a number of paid subscriptions, to research a person. Believe me, it is creepy the amount of information you can legally find out about another person if you have the right subscriptions.

But even without them, I’m still a pretty good snoop, with my past experience in learning the best places to look for information. So, I did a little snooping on Quinn to bring you the most information possible. And here what I found out:

  • My best guess at her age is 42. That’s not confirmed or anything…but it is a very good guess, based on Internet sources. (And no, I’m not telling you how I figured that out. lol.) Some plays are reporting that she’s in her 50’s though…I don’t buy that..
  • Quinn is an Internet marketing manager and the editor of an OC entertainment website, which is called OC Now. (woman after my own heart)
  • Her favorite movie is Serendipity. (I love that movie!)
  • Quinn has two children - one daughter, Shannon (who will not be on the show, as far as I can tell), and one son, Colin (who will be on the show in the future I believe).

I really do like Quinn. But Ok, I’m don’t being a stalker now. Too much of that and I get a nosebleed.

Tune in every Tuesday night at 10 PM to learn more about Quinn and all of the other housewives, and this week make sure you’ve got your TiVo set. There’s going to be a big smack down between the two housewife powerhouses - Jeana and Vicki!

The Real Housewives of Orange Country: Episode 306

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

Things are never quiet in the OC, are they? Recently, this blog has become all but consumed with Project Blog, so I wanted to take a moment and get back on track with what my most loyal readers really want to hear about - recaps, news, and reviews of the best Bravo reality shows! And last night’s epi of The Real Housewives of Orange County was a doozy - so let’s dish!

Lauri Waring, often the most controversial housewife, is busy planning her big day…although, it is her third big day (heck, I’m hoping for just one…). In this episode, she went to lunch with her daughter Ashley, and they discussed the wedding plans, along with who Lauri is going to have as her Maid of Honor. Ashley, once again, had my shaking my head in disbelief as she all but demanded to be given the chosen role. Yes, it probably makes the most sense. Ashley and her mom are really close. But it is Lauri’s decision. If anyone ever tries to persuade me to pick them as MOH, I’m going to be pretty offended.

Lauri_Waring_Wedding_Dress.jpgLater in the show, all of the bridesmaids went with Lauri to pick out a wedding dress with none other than Austin Scarlett of Project Runway season one! How exciting to see yet another cross-over with the Bravo shows. I’m sure that Bravo’s executives had NOTHING to do with Lauri’s choice of designer….but in any case, the dresses were amazing and Lauri looked like a princess. The pictured dress was my personal favorite. $18,000…yowsa. That’s more than I’m going to spend at my entire wedding, let alone on the dress!

But moving on…Jeana Keough and her youngest son, Colton, traveled to Vancouver in this episode to watch Shane play. Must be nice to just hop a plane to Canada whenever you feel like seeing a ball game. Shane, congratulations, I don’t think you’re a total ass anymore. Don’t get me wrong. He’s still an ass. But, at least he’s nicer to Colton these days. I think he recognizes the complete drive that Colton has to be better than him, and instead of being defensive, he’s being realistic. In all honesty, Colton probably will be better someday, and Shane’s going to help him find that success. How sweet.

Vicki_Michael_job.jpgVicki Gunvalson is still the crazy mother, but in this episode her son, Michael, decides to put up with it in order to learn about the insurance career. He’s not really motivated because his internship at the moment is boring (and who can blame him - I’ve had horribly boring desk jobs like that and it is NOT fun). However, I really can see him doing well in this business if he sticks with it. Michael seems to be a hard worker when there’s a prize at the end - and in this case, the prize is a great salary that can, in his own words “buy him a yacht.” He’s willing to start at the bottom and work his way up to that million-dollar paycheck.

And that’s totally different than the mindset of Tamra Barney’s son, Ryan. As much as I think all of the OC kids are a little whack (if you know what I mean), Ryan is by far the most spoiled, the laziest, and the biggest jerk. I’m not a huge fan of Simon, Tarma’s husband, but I do think that he is in the right when he says how disappointed he is in Ryan and how upset he is at how Ryan treats his mother. In this episode, Ryan is finally forced to actually get a job, and Simon gets him an entry-level position as a part picker for $10 an hour. Yeah, that’s not glamorous and it won’t pay many bills in the OC…but you have to start somewhere. Ryan seems pretty much ready to quit though, upset that he isn’t starting at a high-paying desk job. You reap what you sow, buddy. Put in the time and effort, and you’ll get that higher-paying job. Look at Tamra, for instance - she’s working hard at her career and is selling multi-million dollar houses!

Tammy Knickerbocker wasn’t really featured in this episode of The Real Housewives of Orange County. Neither were her daughters, Megan and Lindsey. You have to wonder if they didn’t perhaps ask for a little privacy to help cope with Lou’s death. It also seems like Tammy’s boyfriend isn’t keen about being on camera. In any case, it seems like they’re slowly phasing her out of the show - which means that it is time to bring in a new housewife! I must have been really behind on my Real Housewife news, because until I started seeing previews, I had no idea that new housewife was coming to town! Enter the beautiful Quinn, who, by my calculations, must be in her mid-40s at least, given the ages of her children…and she’s dating a 26-year old - who was mistaken as her son (and probably almost could be)! We’ve never really had a “couger” on the show before, so it’s pretty fun to watch the others’ reactions to that! In any case, I think that Quinn seems really fun and sweet, so I look forward to seeing more of her on the show! I’m signing off for now… but to leave you, here’s a little video about how Quinn and Jeana met:

Project Blog Week Five Prize

Monday, December 10th, 2007

Project Blog is an on-going competition at Reality on Bravo where top-notch bloggers from around the world are competing to be named the ultimate “top blogger”. We’ve got some great prizes lined up, and there’s good news - you can win too! Every Monday, I’ll announce the weekly sponsor and the prize. Make sure that you play every week - you can win some amazing things, thanks to our awesome sponsors!

Week Four’s Sponsor: Astrology Explored (www.astrologyexplored.com)
Week One’s Prize: A free reading from 451’s resident astrologer, Beth

If you’re a dedicated Real Housewives of Orange County fan, raise your hand. (*raises hand*)

You should, then, remember last season when Vicki hired an astrology to do full readings for all of the ladies. It was an epiphany for her - she realized that she wasn’t insane; it was written in the stars for her to have a certain personality.

Whether you’re a believer or not, astrology can be really, really interesting. Here at 451 Press, we have a whole blog dedicated to that art. Beth, from Astrology Watch, is one of the best bloggers we have, and although time restraints have kept her from participating in Project Blog, she has graciously donated a prize for you guys to win - a free mini-reading.

I’m pretty excited about this prize, because it is a bit different from what we have been doing. Instead of winning an item, you’re winning a deeper look at yourself. And that’s super-cool, in my opinion.

Want a chance to win this week’s prize? OF COURSE YOU DO. You can enter up to THREEtimes this week.

  • For one chance, leave a comment on this post on Reality on Bravo with one thing that you’ve learned from Beth’s site.
  • For a second chance, blog about this contest on your own site and email the link to me at allison.boyer-at-yahoo-dot-com.
  • Want a third chance? Vote for your favorite in our Project Blog competition, and leave a comment showing support! The winner will be drawn at random from all qualifying entries. You can vote once per day for your favorite (and please do), and you can comment once on this post link will go live on Thursday).

Please note that comments on other post on my site are not considered as entries.

The winner will be drawn at random from all qualifying entries, so get your comments and posts in today! (Deadline for commenting and posting is Monday, December 17 at noon EST)

Jo De La Rosa is Getting Her Own Show…

Sunday, December 2nd, 2007

jo.jpg…well, her own pilot, at least.

Bravo has announced that they have ordered a pilot for a show (tentatively called “Just Jo” but some of those people involved) that features former Real Housewife Jo De La Rosa and her new life in Los Angels.

Jo De La Rosa was never actually a “housewife,” but the show did something great for her - it put her on the map. Her singing career has a jump start (a luke-warm jump start, but a jump start nonetheless) because she was shown on The Real Housewives in the recording studio last year.

So what will we see with “Just Jo” (or whatever they decide to call it)? According to Bravo, filming will begin this month, and I suspect that the pilot will air sometime this spring or summer, if it airs at all. Jo is reportedly still split from ex-finance/sugar daddy Slade Smiley, although word on the street is that he moved to Los Angeles to be closer to her. Truth? Who knows.

More word on the street? She had a falling out with best friend JJ, who was one of the major influences in moving to LA in the first place.

Will I watch Jo’s new show? Well, I’m willing to give it a try. I have to say, though - the reason that The Real Housewives of Orange County works so well is that they jump from woman to woman and follow tons of story lines. With “Just Jo”, will viewers get bored? It’s possible…

We’ll see - but all the best to Jo, her new show, and her singing career.

Most Fabulous Bravo Personalities: #5 - Lauri Waring

Friday, November 30th, 2007

As part of the NaBloPoMo celebration, I’m posting my list of top 30 Most Fabulous Bravo Personalities. The points of qualification? Only one: be utterly fabulous. “Fabulous can mean intriguing, funny, hot, crazy…or all of the above. Stop back every day during November to see if you favorite star has made the list!

Today’s Fabulous #5 is Lauri Waring, who is perhaps the most controversial housewife on The Real Housewives of Orange County.

1_Project_Runway_Lauri.jpg

Why is Lauri fabulous? Love her or hate her, Lauri Waring makes Bravo interesting, if nothing else.

It’s be a saga, hasn’t it. When we met her, she was going through a divorce and getting out on her on for the first time. She was trying to uphold her lifestyle even though she was being self-sufficient. Her famous quote sums it up: “I’ve been rich, I’ve been poor and you know what? Having money is easier.”

We cheered when she dumped the unworthy guys on their asses. We gasped when she went to the Playboy party. We yelled and screamed when she dating Jo’s on-again-off-again squeeze, Slade.

And then Lauri met George.

If you’ve been keeping up with Real Housewives news beyond the show (because these are real people after all), then you know that the situations surrounding George, Lauri, Lauri’s son Josh, and George’s ex Gina were not ideal, to say the least. As of now, I’m still not sure that she has much, in any, contact with Josh. What I do know is that she’s the real deal in the OC. No matter if you agree with her or not, she sums up what living behind the gates is all about.

Here’s the list of my 30 Fabulous Bravo Personalities so far:

5. Lauri Waring, The Real Housewives of Orange County
6. Jackie Warner, Work Out
7. Ted Allen, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and Top Chef

The Real Housewives of Orange County: Episode 304 Recap

Wednesday, November 28th, 2007

Did you see the show last night? If not, beware - spoilers below!

It’s nice to see Lauri Waring in her new lifestyle. I think that the other ladies are a bit resentful of the fact that she feel into a boatload of money, but really, that’s how life happens sometimes. I think that it is great that she’s acting more like a mature adult instead of running around at the playboy mansion. It was sweet to see the date night she planned for George, and I have to say - I’m happy for her. I know there are a lot of Lauri Waring haters out there, but I’m not one of them. She and George seem to work really, really well together.

The ladies going out together for drinks was a hoot! While they were getting s*-faced, though, some clients of Jeana Keough’s and Tamra Barney’s showed up, and I have to say - I’m torn. There’s a clear indication that Jeana and Tamra are two VERY different people who will be pitted again one another often, by there own career choices if not by the show producers. Jeana is the total professional who chose to tone it down and not play up the fact that she’d had a lot to drink. Tamra, on the other hand, was wild, even when her clients were around! Jeana’s approach is one of trying to remain dignified, and Tamra’s approach is one of trying to relate to her clients, making them all her best friends. Jeana is the loyal golden retriever and Tamra is the yippy, happy terrier.

By the way, who else her isn’t surprised that Tamra gets Bowtox? She’s gorgeous and all, but she’s forty. If you’re forty and look like that, you’re doing more than working out and eating healthy foods…That segment on the show confirmed for me that I’ll NEVER get it done. Way too painful!

The Real Housewives of Orange County: Episode 303 Recap

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

The most major part of Episode 303 of the Real Housewives of Orange County was the girls’ trip to South Beach. Mackenzie (George’s daughter), Ashley (Lauri’s daughter), Megan and Lindsey (Tammy’s daughters), and a few of their friends headed to Miami for a week, and trouble ensued. First, Megan and Lindsey began to fight about money. The girls recently lost their father, Lou Knickerbocker, and without daddy around to pay for the bills, they’re finding that money is a bit tight. One girl whispered to another at the breakfast table “They have no money. That’s so sad.” When Lindsey and Megan argued about paying the bill. This trip to Miami was paid for with Lindsey’s OC Angels money, but Megan was recently fired, so she’s freeloading off of her sister, which you can tell she totally hates to do.

Now here’s the question I have - the rest of the girls at the table have parents who pay for everything. I’m guessing that their budgets for this one-week trip were at like, 5 grand. And that’s not including the hotel room and flights. So, why didn’t some one just offer to pick up the total tab for all of the girls at breakfast? Why not share it if you got it a little?

The girls also went to get tattoos. That’s nothing strange for Megan, but Mackenzie and Ashley also got tatties. Mackenzie got a teeny tiny butterfly on her foot and Ashley got the word “Believe” on her foot. As Lauri said, “Believe in what?” That’s stupid. I’m all for tattoos, but not the generic kind that look like rub-ons that you can buy at the store. Give me a break. They got tattooed by the guys at Miami Ink though, which is super cool. When they got home, George was PISSED. Except, he didn’t really seem all that mad. I guess he’s a “keep it inside” type of guy.

The rest of the episode was mostly of Don and Vicki hosting Jeana, Tammy, and company at their guest house on the river. Can you can DRUNK?!?! Don was SO DRUNK. It was hilarious, though. I couldn’t stop laughing at him and especially Tammy’s reaction to him. They were drinking something called “man juice” which sounds disgusting, but must have been delish. The one thing I have to say, though, is WHY was Colton there? I mean, he’s 15 years old and has recently gotten into a lot of trouble. He does not need to see his mom wasted. Who’s the parent here?

Oh, and let’s not forget this episode’s confirmation of Tamra’s son Ryan as the douchiest guy in Orange County. He sleeps until noon, goes to the gym if he’s not too hungover, “kicks back” all day (his own words, not mine), and then drinks with his friends all night. He’s upset that the training program he went to isn’t calling him with job lead (um…what?). And wost of all, Tamra just gives him money to support his slacking. I think she’s a nice lady, but come on - cut him loose and make him get a job.

Today’s Fabulous #14 is Kara Keough, from the Real Housewives of Orange County

Kara.jpg

Why is Kara fabulous?I’ve made it no secret that I love Kara Keough. Of all the Real Housewives kids, I think it is her and Briana Gunvalson that have their feet on the ground. Yeah, they’re still spoiled. They’re spoiled rotten. But you know what? Kara doesn’t act like a spoiled brat. She’s nice to everyone, friendly when meeting new people, and hard-working. Plus, she knows that there’s more to life than the material things. Kara’s always show that her relationships with people are important.

Speaking of relationships, that picture above is one that she posted on BravoTV.com - it’s her and her new boyfriend! They make an adorable couple!

Check back tomorrow for #13!

Real Houswives of Orange County: Episode 302 Pictorial Recap

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

This episode was a bit boring for me, but maybe its because I was distracted with so much to do for PROJECT BLOG! Here’s a brief recap in case you missed the show last night:

“Haha, Vicki, I may be smiling for the camera, but I’m seriously going to kill you for making me work at at the ass crack of dawn.”

“Please don’t take the Hummer away. We’ll try to run over less people. Promise.”

“Born to be wiiiiiiiiild! Well, ok. Wild, as long as I don’t break a nail and can get some cute pink biker gear.”

Vicki: “Don, what do you think about putting in a pool and moving into this smaller house?”
Don: “Well, I think, since you wanted to live a simpler life, spending time with your family.”
Vicki: “…Uh huh. And we need an outdoor dishwasher and a underwater volcano and a fire and ice show and…”
Contractor: “Only the best!” *cha-ching!*

“Yeah, I’m getting laid tonight. Playboy party here I come. Thanks, dad and Lauri for letting my 18-year-old ass go hang out with horny men!”

“Why do my kids have to ruin my life?”

Most Fabulous Bravo Personalities: #18 - Jo De La Rosa

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

As part of the NaBloPoMo celebration, I’m posting my list of top 30 Most Fabulous Bravo Personalities. The points of qualification? Only one: be utterly fabulous. “Fabulous can mean intriguing, funny, hot, crazy…or all of the above. Stop back every day during November to see if you favorite star has made the list!

Today’s Fabulous #18 is Jo De La Rosa, formerly one of the Real Housewives of Orange County

Real_Housewives_Jo de la rosa_1.jpg

Why is Jo fabulous? I’m not going to lie - too much of Jo, and the girl just grates on my nerves. You know what though? She is what this show is all about - even when someone has the “perfect” life, it is not perfect by far. Jo was born in Peru and her parents came to live in the OC when they won the lottery, and I love that about her. She wasn’t born into wealth, so she knows what it is like to work for your money. And honestly, Jo’s little freak outs were always justified. Slade was not good to her, not by a long stretch. More than one I wanted to slap him for treating her like she was three years old.

I’m not saying that Jo’s the brightest or even the prettiest - but I do think that she’s one of the most sincere. She really, really tried to do what she thought was best all of the time, and even when I did not agree with her, I understood where she was coming from. Maybe it’s because I’m so close to her age? In any case, Jo De La Rosa, You are FABULOUS. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

(Full recap of the RHOC episode coming tomorrow! In the meantime, don’t forget to leave a comment here for your chance to win a bracelet with Project Blog!)

Check back tomorrow for #17!

Here’s the list of my 30 Fabulous Bravo Personalities so far:

Friday Fashion Finds: Kara Keough

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

We all know that TV stars - even reality show TV stars - have some money to throw around. Do I? Nope. So, I’m bringing your Friday’s Fashion Finds! I’ll take a picture of a favorite Bravo star and show you where to find similar fashion for an affordable price. See an outfit you’d love replicate? Email me today, and I’ll feature you on an upcoming week!

Kara_Keough.jpgToday’s Fashion Inspiration: Kara Keough from the Real Housewives of Orange County

Ok, who else thinks that Kara looks great as a brunette? Well, maybe not in this picture because she’s giving her mom the evil eye (and damn does she have an evil eye!), but it was the only picture I could find of her in this cute dress. Kara, Jeana’s daughter, definitely has an addiction to shopping. There have been more than a few shows where she’s seen on sprees worth thousands of dollars. That said, you don’t have to pay that kind of money for an adorable dress like the one she’s wearing. Check out the similar dress I found for a fraction of the cost!

Kara_dress_1.jpg

Like that same graphic/Bohemian feel and the bright colors? It’s not coral, but this blue dress from Metro Style has the same feel as the dress Kara’s wearing. You can’t see it in this picture, but it also had straps, so it actually is cut very similarly to Kara’s dress as well. It’s a steal at just $49.99!

Really, if you look around a bit, you can find lots of similar dresses to this one that Kara is wearing. In fact, I have a similar brown and white dress from Old Navy in my own closet…I think it cost about $10 on sale. You don’t have to spend money like the Keoughs to look fabulous, just like Kara!
