Carson Kressley: How to Look Good Naked

Friday, January 4th, 2008

Recently, Carson Kressley, of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy fame gave a little chat about one of the most important subjects in fashion: How to look good naked. I guess he feels as though there are too many ugly, naked people out there.

Ok, Ok, these pictures of his little talk actually have to do with him promoting a new show, How to Look Good Naked, which premiers tonight on the Lifetime channel at 9 PM. The Fab Five may be going their separate ways, but they aren’t dropping off the face of the earth.

Project Runway - The Hershey Challenge

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

Rami_model_PR.jpgLet’s dish on Project Runway a bit for a moment, shall we? This week, the contestants were asked to make complete outfits in one day from items they gathered in five minutes from a Hershey’s Chocolate store.

Really? I mean…REALLY?

I know the Project Runway is a challenge…but this episode grated on my nerves a bit. What, exactly, did this tell us about the designers? I felt like it was, in part, a challenge about luck and fast-thinking, two traits that, frankly, you don’t need to be a great designer. I was uninspired.

Plus, my main concern is that few of the outfits created were wearable in an everyday setting. Sure, designing fanciful outfits is sometimes needed, but overall, I always want to know what their designs mean to me. How will the winning designer contribute to the fashion world? How will he or she influence what I buy? I need more than a point of view. I need a real understand of the business world, even if that world is crazed by fashion.

This brings me back to the genius that was Chloe Dao. Other contestants *cough*Santino*cough* called her a pattern maker, but what she understood was that HIGH fashion isn’t the only kind of fashion in the world. The rest of us don’t want weird fabric choices and strange colors. We want to look good.

And you can’t look good wearing candy. You just can’t. Not a single one of those models was wearing something that actually will be mass-produced so that someone like me can buy it.

In the end, Rami was the winner…and I called that after watching the first few moments of the show. his construction was flawless, and even I have to admit that good construction is commendable. Our dear Elisa bit the dust….and oh, Bravo, I wish you’d lay up on the foreshadowing a bit.

Project Blog Week Six: Vote for Your Favorite!

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

The blogtestant entries are beginning to roll in, so that means it is time to vote for your favorite! The reader poll counts for 5 points in the overall score. First place gets 3 points, second place 2, and third place 1. Each judge also gets 5 points to distribute as they want, and the person with the overall highest score WINS! So, your votes could determine the winner this week and the blogger who gets immunity in next week’s competition.

In this week’s challenge, blogtestants were asked to show us their picture-posting skills.

The blogtestants:

1. Winnie, Watching the View: “Things we probably won’t see on The View this year”
2. Kate, Babylune: “Now We Agree My Mother Was Right”
3. Sally, Style Fix: “Bai Ling: Not a Fashion Worst”
4. Jodie, Gossip on Sports: “Fun with Photo Captions
5. Mark, Get Incensed: “Star Power”

Blogtestants are listed above by time of post and below by their previous week’s points. They have until Friday at 8 AM to post! If you came here from one of their sites, I encourage you to check out the other entries before voting. You can vote once every 24 hours, and the polls officially close Tuesday at noon! Happy voting!

Project Blog Week Six Competition

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008
project-blog-logo.jpg

Did you watch tonight’s episode of Project Runway? I won’t reveal the outcome in case you haven’t had a chance to tune in yet, but I will bring you a full recap tomorrow!

The task at hand tonight, though? IT’S TIME FOR PROJECT BLOG! In case you’ve not been staying up to date with your Reality on Bravo news, Project Blog is the blogger’s answer to Project Runway. We’ve got the best of the best in bloggers ready to go head to head in weekly competitions for the grand prize:

And as a reader here are Reality on Bravo, YOU CAN WIN TOO! Every week, Reality on Bravo is teaming up with some awesome sponsors to offer prizes for lucky readers. Anyone who leaves a comment on the voting post (which will go live on Thursday) will be automatically entered to win the super-awesome secret prize!

As for the competition, you have a say in that too! Every week after Project Runway, I’ll announce the weekly challenge and our competitors will scurry away to write some amazing posts. Read them, and on Friday, vote for your favorites. Your votes, along with the opinions of our amazing judges, Bethany (the winner of the RoB “Create Your Own Reality Show” contest) and April (an extraordinary professional writer and blogger), determine who stays and who “goes home”

And now, here’s what you really want to know - THIS WEEK’S CHALLENGE:

This week, the contestants had to use unusual products - things found in a candy sore. This week, your challenge is just as sweet. Thankfully, your “products” aren’t quite as unusual! We want to see what you can do with pictures. You must use at least ONE picture in your post, but beyond that it is up to you - use 5 pictures, ten pictures, on hundred pictures…we simply want to see what you can do.

You can use words as well, but the emphasis here is drawing people in with your pictures…be they photoshopped, hilarious, heart-warming, colorful, etc. How can you use pictures to keep your readers captivated? Keep in mind that we’ll be looking at every aspect of your picture-using skills.

Oh, and make sure that you use pictures you love - it is another TWO WEEK CHALLENGE!

You have until 8 AM on Friday to post, but remember - your link will be posted here for voting as soon as you post your entry, so for maximum voting, get your entries in soon!

Bloggers, start your engines! Check back later for a complete list of posts from our blogtestants, and don’t forget to vote on your favorite! Oh, and if anyone else out there wants to play along, send me the link to your post and I’ll include it on the list - you won’t be eligible for the grand prize, but you will get a little link love.

Good luck, bloggers!
